What activities do you lose yourself in?
I like to do many things, however, there are only a select special few that I can get lost in for hours on end.
Playing the guitar used to be one of those things. I plan on getting back into it eventually, as I just received a very nice acoustic guitar this Christmas. In a past life, I would have frequent nights of jamming out on the Hondo electric guitar, connected to my small Crate branded amplifier. I’d select tunes that gave me good vibes and hammer away on the metal strings. Now, you must know that I am not a professional guitarist and I do not know how to read tradional sheet music or know anything technical about notes, half-steps, etc. I play by ear and enjoyed dabbling with tab sheets found on ultimate guitar.com. I always enjoyed a glass or two (or bottle) of my favorite wine during this hobby, which was always relaxing and a good time. I don’t drink much nowadays, but I know for a fact that I’d still find enjoyment and a good dopamine rush without the alcohol when I decide to pluck those strings again.
The next thing, currently at the top of my list, that would cause you not to see me for hours would be drawing. This. When I get on a kick, forget about seeing or talking to me. I love drawing and enjoy seeing the instant results of my thoughts come to life, whether on paper or tablet/PC. I’m finally getting better and finding my style after a many-year hiatus, and this currently my most favorite hobby in the world. I am so glad I picked found this passion again and that I didn’t lose it after years of not drawing. I am happy to be able to share my art with the world. When I was born, I had many health issues, I could have gone blind, and luckily the doctors were able to save my eyesight. I am grateful that I can see (better than any of the doctors thought I would) and live my life to the fullest.
The last thing that gives me a good dopamine rush is my favorite puzzle games! Also known as “granny games” by others in my household. You know, the ones who like to play newer games on newer consoles. I love to play the good old-fashioned puzzlers from the early 2000s, such as Bejeweled and Tumblebugs! I also enjoy a few newer ones too, my newest one being Cats Love Boxes. These games are something I can get lost in until the cows come home!
