Coffee’s Creative Corner

Imagine you’re sitting at the computer and you’re just getting ready to turn it on. In the background, you smell a most enjoyable aroma which is wafting down the hallway into your home office. That smell is coffee. You go grab yourself a cup of the piping hot nectar of the gods and sit back down at your computer to now begin enjoying some of your favorite art. You go to http://www.deviantart.com and are presented with a bunch of incredible art. You think to yourself, “wow this is amazing!” As you scroll through many of the deviations (artworks) whether that be your favorite cartoon, animal or other forms of nature. Have you ever thought about how many of these pieces of art are actually drawn by real people or more recently, AI?

With the emergence of AI-generated art, I feel like the viewer of the art is losing some sort of appreciation for the real artist who has put countless hours into working on creating things to share with the world. AI creates art because it is prompted; but humans create art because we are creatures with a soul or personality who have a desire to create with our own two hands. Going to a prompt and typing in a few words to a paragraph, only to have a computer generate an image based on existing data (human created art) is not really creating art with your entire being. It is somewhat stealing in my opinion. I know this may be a controversial statement because you could ask “well, what about the people who don’t have the means to create art like you or I?”, or “what about the people who don’t have hands?”. These are valid questions. I understand your concern and I don’t believe that these technologies are entirely bad, as they can change or improve lives for the better in many aspects.

Real artists create because they have a story to tell. They have emotions and we can all relate to other human beings with the experiences we have on a daily basis. Having a connection with others is an important aspect of living. We don’t have that same connection with a computer. A computer is a tool that we use to aid us in our creative process, whether that be for work or play.

Human artists who learn and enjoy creating art to share with the world have stuggles, make mistakes and have breakthroughs. They learn new techniques whether that be watercolor pencils, alcohol markers, or other traditional mediums. They learn how to use digital drawing tablets and the applications such as Krita, Photoshop, Procreate or IbisPaint. Their proportions might not be quite right at first but the muscle memory they gain from practicing and the improvements we see over time is what makes it enjoyable to them. Human artists love to be seen and acknowledged for their hard work. They love to see likes and comments on their art stating what is loved about it because they put their heart and soul into creating something for your viewing pleasure. AI generated art takes that all away because many websites or companies like DeviantArt, are for profit, not for people. They allow users to pump out high quantities of images, hoping to make a buck, all while drowning out the hard work of humans who are real artists who pour their blood, sweat and tears into their creations. Supporting non-AI artists is very important to me. On DeviantArt, you can suppress AI art by going into your settings. Cara is an art community that does not allow AI, artwork, which I think is fantastic! You should join and check them out to support real human artists. All the art you see on my site and on my DeviantArt is created by me, and no AI!

If you like what I create, you can purchase anything I have available on my DeviantArt or buy me a coffee. Your support means a lot! Check back on the website and my DA, as I am frequently uploading new works! Don’t forget to support other human artists whether that be on a website like DA or purchasing from local artists in your city!

Coming soon – I am going to make a page or begin creating blog posts on this site that features a new artist every month! The place is going to be called “Coffee’s Creative Corner”. I will write another blog post with an update in the near future. I still have some setting up to do…
