Sunk Cost?

Describe the most ambitious DIY project you’ve ever taken on.

The most ambitious DIY project? How about multiple DIY tasks, all at once?

Drawing of a gloomy house, it needs a lot of TLC.

It was one of the autumns of my mid-twenties and I had a decent job and still lived at home with my parents. I’d lived the same life in the same house since I was a young kid. I was wanting to leave the nest so I could see what it was like to have my own of everything. So I contacted a realtor and started house hunting for something I could call my very own home.

A few months go by and I look at a variety of houses, trying to find my dream house. I ended up settling on an extreme budget home, and I mean budget. Little did I know it needed way more work than I thought going in. I remember thinking “what did I get myself into?” As I saw the list of tasks and projects that needed to be completed – grow…

This place had so many issues, and was a 3/4 of the way filled gold mine by the time I moved out after 6+ years of  improvements to the house. Toward my end of living there, I decided to not pump any more of my cash cow into it as it was a lost cause (I didn’t plan on living there forever). I didn’t end up making anything on the sale and if you look at inflation, I actually lost.

Upon thinking of all the money and time I put into the house, I can still look back to that time and am proud of my accomplishments during that part of my life. I’ve come so far with so much more confidence and knowledge regarding home repair and can use it in my current situation.
