What’s something most people don’t understand?

If everyone worked together to make the world a better place, it would take a joint effort from everyone to understand one another’s feelings and why we feel the way we do. It’s not agreeing with one another’s worldviews and it’s not totally forgetting about your cares and values – I am not saying that at all. Learning about how others are feeling and why is something everyone would need to put effort into when interacting with others. I can say from experience that it can be a very hard thing to want to do, however, I find that it actually takes more mental energy to think about why you should not do it and being selfish than actually just doing the right thing. I am not discounting the way it can be emotionally taxing; but in order to make this world truly a better place for the betterment of society, everyone, no matter their ability or potential, would need to try using what’s called “empathy” in their daily lives. There are so many people out there who know what empathy is. There are so many people who choose not to use it. There are people who choose to use it for their own benefit and also people who use it to hurt others.
What do you think of when you hear the word “empathy” or “empathetic”?
To me, before I knew anything about it, sounded like a negative term, a quality that someone wouldn’t want to have or be associated with. I was totally wrong. It truly is something that could make the world a better place if we all knew what it meant and put it into play.
Let’s look at the definition of “empathy”. According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, this word means:
“the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another”
