What gives you direction in life?
Some people have religion or their god that gives them direction. For others, it’s volunteer opportunities, or their job. All of these are great, but I wouldn’t have the encouragement to do any of these without the people in my life cheering me on to be true to myself and do what makes me feel happy / fulfilled. Whatever it is that you do, I’m sure there is something we can all agree on, and that is, we are all influenced by the other humans in our life (no matter how many we interact with) and that is how we come to be in the specific situations we’re at in our lives at any given moment.
Before my mom passed away a couple of years ago, I was contemplating what I was going to do, such as a support group or therapy to cope with my loss. I was always pretty close with my people at work, they always listen to me, especially when I was going through one of my roughest patches. I grew closer with them and they were very encouraging and supportive of me.
I ultimately ended up going to therapy, which influenced me to make some major changes in my life and to become uncomfortable. Going off on a bunny trail, I can tell you therapy is the best thing I ever did for myself. It was, is, and will be hard to deal with my emotions at times, as you’ve got to be vulnerable in order to benefit from it. However, I encourage anyone thinking about therapy to just go and do it for yourself. Therapy was the turning point for the new direction my life would take. I’ve been happily married for almost a year now, and I’ve grown emotionally and have become a happier person ultimately because of the people I’ve decided to surround myself with. Make sure you surround yourself with people who allow you to be who you want to be, not who they want you to be.
Thank you for reading and I hope you have a great Friday!
